Whats going on this month in casino news around the world?

     Panama Papers link Sagi to offshore accounts

While the Panama Papers have brought out mighty names such as Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Iceland, they have been mentioned in the leak of documents of the off-shore law firm of Panama City. The documents containing about 11 million records have benefitted journalists worldwide by giving them a look into the banking activity of world renowned leaders, celebrities and even sports stars.
Teddy Sagi, Playtech’s Founder, was one of the many who have been linked to off shore accounts in Israel. Sagi  is a billionaire and founded Playtech (1999), a leading software provider in the casino field. It has now grown to become one of the most popular and powerful gaming companies in the world. Mr. Sagi is also a heavy investor in the field of real estate and owns 16 offshore accounts. Also, he is mentioned as the only shareholder of all the firms in casino. The bank of Leumi, had to pay around 400 Million Dollars as a fine that was imposed on it, once it was found that it had been able to assist 1500 Americans to evade tax. 

     NYX takes over OpenBet for 270 million dollars; April 6, 2016

The NYX Gaming Group reached an agreement with OpenBet where the former will be acquiring the latter for a whopping sum of 270 Million Dollars. OpenBet is currently owned by the Virtuvian Partners LLP. It is said that the deal would not have been made possible without the help of Sky Betting and William Hill, which funds the deal partially with 80 Million Dollars. The company William Hill will also be acquiring an extra stake worth 10 million Dollars. This will be a 10 year deal with the NYX to improve the gaming and betting platforms.
Sky Betting financed approximately 20 million dollars for the deal, which is a much smaller amount. However, this left many confused. After NYX takes over OpenBet completely, it will be offering a diverse range of gambling options to players as it currently features poker and in Casino products. 

     DFS becomes illegal in Alabama

The last in casino news to be featured is that of Luther Strange, Attorney General of Alabama, who declared Daily Fantasy Sports as illegal gambling and ordered to cease the operations of DFS in Casino. DraftKing and FanDuel were both sent official letters to cease their operations of DFS after the Attorney general found them illegal under the law of Alabama. Following the DFS insider trading scandal in October last year, the states of Illinois, Georgia, Hawaii, Texas, New York, etc ruled in a similar manner. 12 States now follow the rule of DFS as illegal, with Alabama being the latest addition.
